Today I have been working on sound. I have been in particular looking at sound effects and what we can use as our background music in order for it to appear more realistic. We have finished the editing of the sequence and now we just need to focus on sound.
Within it, we layered and cross faded quite a bit as we feel in deepens and enhances the thriller. One of the things we did was get students and record them having a scripted conversation with American accents - as we wanted it to seem as if it was other guests within the motel. Once recorded we lowered the sound of them and made it more muffled and husky as this gives it an effect of noise through the wall being very subtle and not distracting.
Other sounds that we have managed to get from the software include: car sounds, helicopter noises, a dog barking and bathroom noises.
In particular we wanted the last few seconds of the OS to be very suspenseful and loud so we heightened the helicopter and police sirens to an over-bearing volume level. We feel this will make the audience even more intrigued and will build the tension very well.
